Hallo! Today is the day that the Americans call Thanksgiving! In Holland we think it is strange to kill and eat a large, flightless bird. Instead, we give thanks by adopting a small monkey and dressing him up as a little man. The most important part is the donning of the traditional black plastic glasses, known as the Filverje. The head of the household is in charge of securing the monkey diaper or "namiddag verrukking". When the diaper is secure, the family fastens the monkey to the ceremonial table (the "alvleesklier") and tickles the monkey until sundown.
