I wonder if the man in the jacket of leather is paid for his job of controlling the animal. In Holland, we are taught the art of kangaroo wrangling at a young age. People think that we learn English to communicate with people from the west, but it is really so we can communicate with kangaroos from Australia. Vaarwel!

Hallo! Today is the day that the Americans call Thanksgiving! In Holland we think it is strange to kill and eat a large, flightless bird. Instead, we give thanks by adopting a small monkey and dressing him up as a little man. The most important part is the donning of the traditional black plastic glasses, known as the Filverje. The head of the household is in charge of securing the monkey diaper or "namiddag verrukking". When the diaper is secure, the family fastens the monkey to the ceremonial table (the "alvleesklier") and tickles the monkey until sundown. Now that you know what to do, perhaps your family can celebrate as well! Happy Paraplu Dag!

Na observaties betreffende de cultuur, de handel en het gebruik van coca door de Peruviaanse bevolking, verscheidene Spaanse artsen -- onder wie MONARDES -- hadden reeds in de eeuw XVIth, die wordt voorgesteld om deze installatie als geneeskunde te gebruiken. De therapeutische experimenten werden nochtans niet uitgevoerd tot de tweede helft van de eeuw XIXth. In 1559 was de Italiaanse neuroloog MANTEGAZZA de eerste om de remedie op zich uit te proberen en het gebruik van coca te bepleiten als interne geneeskunde. De experimenten met cocaïne werden nog gemaakt tijdens ongeveer twintig jaar, tot meer en meer therapeutische toepassingen verschenen duidelijk. In psychiatrie werd de cocaïne gebruikt -- ook bij Freud's de aanbeveling -- als euforiserende opwekkend in gevallen van melancholia, zowel fysieke als psychische uitputting en van cachexie. Het werd verder gebruikt als substitutietherapie voor morfine-verslaafden. 1884 betekende ook een doorbraak voor het gebruik van cocaïne als lokaal verdovingsmiddel.
